Welcome to Amity Elementary School
Playground Rules for Cold & Snow
Parents,

Thank you for sending your children dressed appropriately for our early winter!  We will make every effort to get kids outside for recess, because they need the exercise and benefit from getting out of the classroom.  It helps to have them dressed warmly in coats, hats, and gloves.

Please be aware that we are asking children to "leave the snow on the ground."  They are not to throw snowballs or "white-wash" with the snow.  If/when the snow cooperates, it is okay if they build snowmen.  In fact, we love seeing the snowmen on our field.

Special Note:  As part of "Playground with the Principal" (which we're doing instead of Pizza with the Principal), Mr. Lowe will be taking a couple classes out to play in the snow.  The class order was previously arranged, and this week he will be taking Mrs. Cox's class and Mrs. Emry's class out to play.  They will be sledding, but this does NOT constitute a change in the school rules.  These children will be allowed to sled during the school day, because they will be under his direct supervision.

Children should not be bringing sleds or playing on the side of the building at any other time.  We appreciate your continued help with this long-standing school rule.

Winter Weather has Arrived
We are having a terrific year at Amity!  Our first quarter was full of learning and fun.  Students are becoming more and more proficient with Common Core math strategies.  It's amazing to see and hear what they are learning in class.  Students are thinking critically, solving problems, and explaining their thought processes.  On the "fun" side of things, we had a successful Jog-a-thon and a "frightful" Halloween parade in October.  So far, in November, we've already enjoyed Teacher Delivery Night at Papa John's Pizza and had an inspirational Veteran's Day program.
You've no doubt noticed that winter weather has arrived. Please be aware that we will try to get children outside for recess so that they can get the exercise they need to stay alert in their classrooms.  We appreciate your help in making sure that children are dressed for the weather with coats, hats, and gloves.
